The perrin technique is not a quick fix; it is a successful method in helping people with ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia & long covid manage their symptoms and support their path to getting their lives back.
Having treated, supported and worked with several ME/CFS, FMS & Long covid patients, we are aware how tough and impactful the condition is to their lives.
Neuroscientist and Osteopath,Dr Raymond Perrin DO PhD, has been.investigating the causes of ME/CFS for the past 30 years, and he continues to share his knowledge worldwide. He is a well-known educator amongst his peers and has won multiple awards for his thesis on the involvement of cerebrospinal fluid and lymphatic drainage in ME/CFS.
Perrin's research into ME/CFS has expanded our knowledge of diagnosis and treatment for the condition and confirms the root cause is physiological as opposed to psychogical which unfortunately many health professionals continue to believe today.
The hypothersis it is a build up of toxins and inflammatory chemicals in the brain and spinal cord leading to a dysfunction of the sympathetic nervous system, which is part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) of the body, this deals with the automatic function of the body.
A final trigger usually a viral infection, like Epstein Barr virus or Covid- 19, leads to a breakdown of the sympathetic nervous system's control of the lymphatic drainage leading to a reversal of the flow of toxins towards the brain and the spinal cord. The further backflow of toxins results in further disruption of the central nervous system. This is the case for patients suffering from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/ Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) & long covid/ post covid syndrome.
For Fibromyalgia patients, there is a backflow of toxins affecting areas of the brain that controls the pain centers in the thalamus, resulting in widespread of body pain.
The Perrin Technque - What is it?
The Perrin Technique is a manual method that aids the diagnosis and treatment of ME/CFS based on the theory that stress factors which can be physical, emotional, chemical, or immunological (such as allergies or infections) can cause excessive strain on the sympathetic nervous system, leading to ME/CFS.
Dr Perrin‘s method is an advanced massage & osteopathic technique using gentle articulations, manipulation, massage and cranial techniques to guide the toxins out of the central nervous system into the lymphatic system, also referred to as "neuro- lymphatic drainage" or "the glymphatic system". Simply since it has been shown to drain toxins from the cells known as the "glia" of the brain to the lymphatics.
The Perrin Technique at Osteotherapy by Khush Mandaviya at Stanmore Wellness Clinic consists of tailored osteopathic technique together with the massage of soft tissues in the head, neck, back and chest with the gentle stroking lymphatic technqiues directing all the toxins out of the lymphatic system and into the blood, where they are eventually detoxified in the liver.
The Perrin Technique is not a quick fix, recovery takes time. This can take months to years depending on your prognosis. We factor into account your back story- what led you here today - we take our time to understand what toxins are impacting you- be it emotional or physical stress, traumas, illnesses, from birth until now.
The proof that the Perrin Technique is not a placebo is the fact that most of the patients feel a great deal worse at the beginning of the treatment. Placebo treatments generally do not make you worse. The reason for this initial worsening in the symptoms is due to the fact that for the first time the toxins embedded for possibly years in the central nervous system are being released into the rest of the body via the lymphatic drainage into the blood. This gives the liver and kidneys extra toxins metabolise.
As the toxin build up reduces, as will the side effects. Around the 6-10 month mark, patient's find that they start having "big crashes". This is a sign that their lymphatic system is beginning to function properly again, Almost like a jump-start to a car. It is common finding for patients to believe that they are getting worse at this stage; in fact it is the opposite, because they are getting better they feel this way. The gap to how they are feeling now has improved from what they constantly felt like originally is getting bigger. Likely due to the fact they are pushing their baseline further without realising.
Pacing becomes more testing at this stage, as patiens try to identify a new improved baseline which they were not able to do before for years.
Past this stage, patients find they have more good days than bad. They find the symptoms they felt initially are almost non existent, they are able to do more than usual. From having meals lying down to being able to sit through a whole meal in a noisy restaurant, and not crash. Provided thats all they do.
What is the Perrin Technique trying to achieve?
